Oral surgery is a common practice in dental care that we encounter often. While some surgeries may require a specialist, there are many smaller procedures that our experienced doctors are equipped to perform in our own office.

It’s important to us that we help you have all the information you need to make educated decisions when it comes to your oral health, so we schedule evaluations when it comes time for surgery. At this evaluation, we will figure out whether the procedure should take place in the office or not. This way, we can ensure that you are comfortable at every step of the way.

In the pursuit of comfort, we offer heated massage chairs in every treatment room, as well as Cable TV, headphones, and blankets. We want to break down the cycle of anxiety that accompanies visits to the dentist’s office. Our team at Taylor Dental has created an environment that inspires the relaxation that comes with knowing you are in the hands of dental professionals that are perfectly suited to aid your oral health.

For our patients who are prone to dental anxiety, we offer Halcion. Halcion is like a sleeping pill, or conscious sedation, that reduces anxiety and allows our patients to feel at ease during their oral surgeries. This sleeping pill is very safe for all who feel they may benefit from its effects, but it is essential that patients that choose this type of sedation have a ride to and from the office on the day of the procedure.

Teeth Extractions

Oral surgery sounds a little daunting, but really it’s just any procedure that takes place in or around the mouth or jaw. A common oral surgery procedure is teeth extractions. We typically can perform this in the office, but if the tooth is impacted, we may need to refer it to a specialist. We do both simple and surgical extractions for your convenience.

A tooth may need to be extracted for a variety of reasons. These include:

  • Tooth Decay
  • Infection
  • Overcrowding
  • In preparation for partials and dentures
  • Getting rid of compromised teeth before chemotherapy

As long as the tooth isn’t impacted or below the surface, the procedure is relatively straightforward. This staple of oral surgery is often very quick compared to some of the more lengthy surgeries. Our doctors are skilled in teeth extractions for adults and children alike. You will be given top-tier service that is centered around your comfort and the improvement of your oral health.

Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal Therapy becomes necessary when the pulp of the tooth has become infected. This is one of the most common examples of oral surgery and provides patients instant pain relief and prevents the infection from spreading to other parts of the body. We have perfected the process of root canal therapy so that our patients benefit from our efficient and effective procedure. When you come to the Taylor Dental office on the day of your procedure, you can expect:

  • Anesthesia: The gums will be numbed with local anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the duration of the procedure.
    Tooth preparation: A small opening will be made in the tooth to reach the infected area. We must be able to access the pulp chamber and root canals of the tooth.
  • Pulp removal: The tooth pulp, nerves, and infected tissues will be removed from inside the tooth.
  • Cleaning the tooth: The pulp chamber and root canals will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, ensuring all infection is removed.
  • Filling the tooth: Once clean, the inside of the root canals will be filled with a flexible dental material called gutta-percha.
  • Sealing the tooth: Once root canal therapy is complete, the tooth will be sealed. While some patients may only require a dental filling, most will require a dental crown to help protect the weakened tooth. Our crowns can be fabricated from high-quality materials on the same day in our office, using CEREC® technology.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom teeth extractions are a little less common in our office, but if you have a wisdom tooth that is easily accessible, we may be able to take care of it without outside help. If this is the case, we will be able to determine this during your oral surgery evaluation so that you know what your next steps are.
