Enhance the Appearance of Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers can improve the appearance of your smile by customizing the shape, color, and size of your teeth. These thin, ceramic shells are carefully bonded to the front surface each tooth, concealing minor imperfections such as chips, cracks, or intrinsic discoloration. At our practice in Pensacola, FLDr. Andrew Taylor can customize your veneers to blend seamlessly with your smile, for a natural look and feel. This long-lasting cosmetic treatment is made of durable, stain-resistant ceramic for optimal results. If properly cared for, porcelain veneers can enhance your smile for up to 15 years.

What Do They Treat?

Porcelain veneers are an excellent solution for patients struggling with a number of dental concerns, including:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Teeth with worn edges
  • Minor dental misalignment
  • Intrinsic dental staining and discoloration
  • Irregularly shaped teeth

Porcelain veneers provide a more conservative approach to cosmetic alterations than dental crowns, as they do not require extensive reshaping of the tooth structure.

Porcelain Veneer Treatment

During your initial consultation, your dentist will perform a thorough evaluation to determine whether you are a candidate for porcelain veneers. In order to be eligible for this procedure, you must have sufficient tooth enamel to support a veneer. In addition, patients with signs of tooth decay or gum disease will need proper periodontal care prior to receiving veneers.

Your porcelain veneer treatment generally requires two to three appointments. However, your treatment timeline will ultimately depend upon the condition of your smile and the number of preliminary procedures performed.

The Procedure

Once candidacy has been established, your dentist can administer a local anesthetic in order to ensure your comfort. He will then prepare your tooth by removing roughly a half millimeter of enamel. This process ensures that your veneer fits comfortably and securely over the surface of your tooth. After reshaping is complete, your dentist will take impressions of your smile, which will be used to create your customized veneer. He will send these impressions to a specialized lab where your veneer will be constructed. This process can take one to two weeks, during which time you will be provided with a temporary restoration.

Understanding Porcelain Veneers

Veneers can address a wide range of dental imperfections including chips, cracks, and discoloration. They can leave your smile looking and feeling beautiful.

When your veneers are ready, you will return to our office for placement. Before permanently affixing your veneers to the tooth surface, your dentist will ensure proper fit and color. If no adjustments are needed, he will then gently etch the surface of your tooth to create a strong bond between the veneer and the tooth surface. Next, he will apply a special cement to the veneer and place it on the tooth. To secure it in place, he will shine a special light directly onto the veneer, which hardens the cement. Your smile will then be polished for final touches.
