Achieve a Strong Foundation with Dental Implants

Tooth loss can significantly impact your daily life, making it difficult to properly chew and speak. To restore the function and aesthetics of your smile, Dr. Andrew Taylor and our other dentists will work with a trusted oral surgeon to coordinate your customized treatment plan. We can ensure the highest quality care throughout your treatment, from the placement of dental implants to your final custom-made prosthesis. At Taylor Dental in Pensacola, FL, we are committed to helping our patients achieve and maintain a healthy, strong smile.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are designed to replace tooth roots at the site of a missing tooth. These implants are surgically embedded into the jawbone to provide a stable base upon which custom restorations such as dental crowns, bridges, and dentures can be affixed. Dental implants are also the only method of preventing further bone atrophy after tooth loss or extraction.

Who Are the Best Candidates?

To determine whether you qualify for dental implants, we will evaluate your overall health and the structure of your smile. In order to be eligible, your teeth and gums must be healthy enough for treatment. In addition, you must have sufficient bone tissue to support dental implants. If you exhibit signs of jawbone recession, you may require a preliminary procedure such as a bone graft or sinus lift to ensure optimal results. Your dentist will work with you to create a customized treatment plan that addresses your unique dental needs, aesthetic goals, and budget.

Dental Implant Procedure

Before your dental implant procedure, your oral surgeon will administer a local anesthetic and may provide sedation to ensure your comfort. He or she will then make a small incision in the gum line before carefully inserting the implant directly into the jawbone. Once the implant is placed, your oral surgeon will close the incision with sutures to allow for proper healing.

At Taylor Dental, we can oversee your entire restorative treatment plan to ensure you receive the highest quality care from start to finish.

Over a recovery period of three to six months, your body will undergo osseointegration, in which your jawbone will fuse with the dental implant. This process helps to create a strong and permanent foundation for restorations.

Once you have fully recovered, the oral surgeon will affix an abutment to your dental implant. This small device will connect your implant to your restoration. After about two weeks of healing, you will return to Dr. Taylor's office for your final restorations.

Restorations

Your dentist will first take impressions of your smile, which will be used to create your crown, bridge, or denture. For patients requiring a full dental arch, Dr. Taylor can perform the All-on-4® technique, using only four implants to support each denture. For qualifying patients, we can place same-day crowns using our advanced CEREC system for immediate results.

For patients receiving a traditional restoration, we can send your impressions to a trusted dental laboratory, where your prosthesis will be constructed over a period of one to two weeks. To restore form and function to your smile, we can then affix your restoration to the dental implant.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants can not only help to restore the aesthetics of your smile, but they can benefit your overall oral health. In addition, they provide:

  • Improved comfort
  • Restored function
  • Permanent, lasting results
  • Enhanced self-confidence

After tooth loss or extraction, your jawbone naturally begins to recede. Dental implants are the only solution to preventing further bone atrophy and preserving the structure of your smile and face.
